Bilcare Research’s business areas – including Pharmaceutical Packaging Innovations, and Bilcare Technologies – address the industry’s five C’s: counterfeiting, compliance, communication, convenience and cost. Offerings include:
- Packaging film solutions including PVC Mono, PVC/PVDC, PVC/Aclar®, PVC/AquaBa® and Cold Form Foil.
- Lidding foil-standard push through aluminum foils, paperback child-resistant foils and eco-friendly lid foil Nova.
- Anti-counterfeiting and branding solutions such as Bilcare Protect, a blister utilizing embedded images nearly impossible to duplicate.
- BilcareOptima, an enhanced formulation analysis determining optimal packaging solutions.
Recent Developments at Bilcare Research include:
Eco-friendly Blister Film
ECOmply® is an eco-friendly blister blending standard PVC film with an additive that makes it biodegradable, resulting in PVC-level functionality without PVC-level environmental footprint. ECOmply® breaks down only under anaerobic conditions typically found in landfills, overcoming a hurdle in designing a cost-effective, ecofriendly blister package, as conventional biodegradable materials have problems withstanding mechanical, thermal and biological stress during blister forming and in-market lifecycle. ECOmply® film has been tested for biodegradability per ASTM D5511. Initial results have shown 18.7% biodegradation in 45 days.
Advanced Forced Drug Degradation Analysis for Ideal Packaging Solutions
BilcareOptima™ is an advanced forced drug degradation analysis that determines a product’s susceptibility to various environmental factors, most prevalently humidity, temperature and light, to recommend the perfect packaging solution for products before they are ever packaged. Highly sophisticated, BilcareOptima™ offers a foresight-oriented upgrade from traditional drug stability testing, which is generally performed in hindsight after a product is packaged.
